Description

Fort Pierce, also known as the Sunrise City, is the county seat of St. Lucie County, Florida. Fort Pierce was first settle during the Second Seminole War in December of 1837. The fort was named in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin K. Pierce. In 1901, the City of Fort Pierce was officially incorporated. During World War II, , the U.S. Naval Amphibious Training Base was established in Fort Pierce, marking the beginning of the city's population boom that would last throughout the 1950s.
