Description

Avon Park was first settled in 1884 by Oliver Martin Crosby, a native of Connecticut who came to study wildlife in the Everglades. Avon Park was officially incorporated on January 1, 1926, and was named after the English town of Stratford-upon-Avon, which was the home of many of its early settlers.
