The Panama City News-Herald about the graduation of Captain Aquilla A. Calhoun, Jr., a native of Panama City, from the University of Florida (UF) in Gainesville. Capt. Calhoun graduated from UF shortly before his enlistment in the U.S. Army Reserves and joining 92nd Field Artillery's 2nd Armored Division in Fort Benning, Georgia. He was a part of the Omaha Beach Normandy Invasion during World War II and played an integral part in liberating the town of Bresles, France. Capt. Calhoun died during his service in Northern France and is currently buried at the Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial in Dinozé, France.
