This podcast includes interviews with former students and teachers of Jones High School, the first public school for African Americans in Orlando, Florida. For decades, black students were forbidden from attending white public schools. The original building for the high school was on the corner of Garland Avenue and Church Street, but the school was renamed the Johnson Academy and moved to a newer building on the corner of Parramore Avenue and Jefferson Street. In 1921, the school was renamed in honor Principal L. C. Jones and a brick, Colonial Revival building was constructed on the corner of Parramore Avenue and Washington Street.
