In 1903, Dickson and Ives purchased the Browne Building and re-opened it as the Dickson-Ives Grocery. In 1913, the grocery store became a department store and discontinued groceries in 1919. In 1920, Dickson and Ives demolished their building and the C. E. Hillyer Company constructed a new brick building to house the Dickson & Ives Company. The present four-story structure was designed with Beaux Arts/Classical terra cotta cornice and friezes. The company was reorganized in 1944 as Dickson and Ives.
