Gentlemen:- Attention Mr. Mouser.
I think it is essential that the Accounting Depart¬ment prepare immediately a statement for each district show¬ing the quantity of fruit moved from each district from March 1 to April 1, prices realized, and add this March re¬port to the previous reports made up so as to show the averages of each district from the beginning of the season up to say April 1.
It is essential that the outside district men be touched up daily as to the necessity of soliciting business for the coming season, and to make use of these statements
of ours which show up good. May could use as a talking
point the fact that Chase, & Company growers get a check for the net proceeds within a reasonable length of time after shipment is wade, and the growers who strike the good market gat the benefit of it, and their averages are not pulled down by being pooled with poor fruit on bad markets. There is a good talking point in this line of argument. I think you understand how to put it up to the district men.
In line "with my suggestion Monday I would have prepared, on plain paper, an outline of a letter of withdrawal for Exchange growers to sign, same to be mailed to the SubExchanges they belongto in order to gat them out of the exchange on or before the date which their contract calls
for said notice to be filed. they want to go into the
Exchange after withdrawal they can do so and if they want to go into an independent marketing agency they can do so. It is an easy matter to tell the men they can write a letter announcing their intention to withdraw, but the district men should have a letter prepared and with them, and when they get their prospective shippers worked up to the proper point get their signature to the letter, hold on to it and mail it, keeping a copy of same. I think Dade, Clemens,Cloward, S. O. Chase, Jr., prank Dade and Vogt should all have several copies of this proposed letter. If the growers are tied up with the exchange for another year it is going to be a mighty hard matter to do business with them, but if they signify their desire to withdraw within the next week or ten days they will then be free to act as they see fit
later on. Too mush importance cannot be placed on active,
strenuous, work along this line between now and May 1.

Description
Chase & Company was established by Joshua Chase and his brother Sydney in 1884. The company sold insurance and later invested in storage facilities and fertilizer sales. Chase & Company was known mainly for its agricultural interests and maintained a series of citrus groves throughout Central Florida. The company was based out of Sanford, Florida, and became one of the city's largest employers into the early twentieth century. By 1886, the Chase brothers purchased several citrus groves to expand their business, including Isleworth Grove in Windermere. Isleworth Grove covered a total of 1,300 acres along the Butler Chain of Lakes.
Between 1894 and 1895, Central Florida was hit by several freezes and most of the citrus crop was destroyed. Chase & Company did not grow citrus crops again until 1904 when Joshua came back from an extended stay in California. Between 1894 and 1900, different types of pesticide equipment was created, including equipment driven by steam, machines, and horses.
Randall Chase joined in the family business soon after his brother, Sydney Chase, Jr., did in 1922. Randall became the president of Chase & Company from 1948-1965. The Isleworth property stayed in the Chase family until 1984 when Franklin Chase, the son of Sydney Chase, sold the property to famed golfer Arnold Palmer.

Description
An original letter of correspondence written by Sydney Octavius Chase to employees at Chase & Company in Orlando. The letter identifies that Chase & Company played an active role in recruiting dissatisfied members from the Florida Citrus Exchange in order to build and extend their own business throughout the state. One marketing strategy Chase & Company implemented included comparing sales numbers between the Exchange and its own production numbers. Members within the company solicited and circulated the information to growers in nearby districts. With an increased membership in the company, Chase hoped that including more growers would help balance out the less productive crops in the previous growing season. The letter also shares some of the doubts and distrust Chase & Company felt toward the Exchange, a state organization comprised of a large number of Florida citrus growers. While members who trusted the Exchange praised the organization as a united group of growers that promoted better distribution and marketing of their citrus products, growers such as Chase & Company were hesitant to hand over all of their power to a larger organization with poor marketing strategies.
