The LizArt project was inspired by Chicago's cows on Parade, which was modeled after a public art project in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1998. Other cities have held similar projects, such as Cincinnati's pigs, Lexington's horses, Buffalo's buffalo, Virginia Beach's mermaids, New Orleans' fish, and Rhode Island's potato heads.
