Description

A newspaper article from The Orlando Sentinel describing restoration efforts on Lake Apopka. C. W. Sheffield, chairman of the Lake Apopka Restoration Technical Committee, is quoted describing temporary plans working towards a comprehensive restoration effort. Four major sources of pollution have been identified in the lake: fertilizer runoff, citrus processing discharge, sewage disposal, and unspecified pollution from the Gourd Neck Springs area. Sheffield states that a Lake Apopka Restoration Fund has been created to finance restoration efforts and that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (CoE) is studying potential diking locations to isolate the farming areas on the north shore of the lake.
