A newspaper article from The Orlando Sentinel describing a meeting held in Tavares, Florida, to discuss steps to restore Lake Apopka. The meeting was a counterpart to executive level meetings held by Florida Governor Claude R. Kirk, Jr. (1926-2011) in Tallahassee, and a direct result of his anti-pollution efforts. The meeting was chaired by C. W. Sheffield, who outlined a basic series of steps to being to restoring the lake. In attendance were representatives of Winter Garden citrus interests, the Zellwood Drainage District, and concerned citizens. Several possible treatments for the lake are discussed. Don Feaster, of the Southwest Water Management District, notes his organization plans to raise the lake's water level that summer to dilute pollution in the lake.
