Beth Israel Home
Being Erected For
New Congregation
Ground has been broken at the corner of Sixteenth Street and Magnolia Avenue for the Jewish con- gregation of Beth Israel’s new com- munity center being erected by
Rex Racoosin, member of the con- gregation. The building, when completed, will have cost approxi- mately $8,000 and is to be used for all activities of the congregation both religious and social.
The Beth Israel congregation formed in May 192__ with only a few members today has grown until there are 2__ members, all of them residents of Sanford and vicinity. Perry Weinberg, First street jeweler, is president of the church.
Upon completion of the building elaborate ceremonies are expected to be conducted. Prominent Jews and officials of the church from all over the state are to be invited to participate in _____ ________ ceremonies, according to Mr. Weinberg, who stated that the completion of the building would be only a matter of a few weeks.
“The progress made by the Jewish congregation in Sanford during the past year has been remarkable and we are expecting to add many more to our number within the next year. Our success in getting a home for our own has been made possible through the combined efforts of the members of the congregation,” Mr. Weinberg said today.
