***************************************************************SUBSCRIPTION BRIDGE PARTY GIVEN
BY D. A. R. IS DELIGHTFUL AFFAIR
One of the largest as well as most enjoyable social affairs of the season was that of Friday afternoon when the Sallie Harrison Chapter N.S.D.A.R. entertained at a subscription bridge party at the Woman’s Club.
The spacious club auditorium where the tables had been placed for play was abloom with quantities of lovely autumn flowers accentuating the colors of orange and green. Many black cats, witches and other suggestions of the Hallowe’en season were used with pleasing effect about the rooms.
Receiving the guests upon arrival were: Mrs. John Leonardi, regent of the chapter, and Mrs. R. E. Tolar, finance chairman.
The afternoon hours were quickly spent with games of progressive prize, scores for which were kept on quaint Hallowe’en tallies. After the usual number of progressions had been played, scores were collected and prizes awarded. Miss Annie Hawkins, who held top score, received a framed colonial print. Second prize, a magazine rack, went to Mrs. Victor Check, while the low score prize a serving basket, fell to the lot of Mrs. John Bender.
At the conclusion of the game, the tables were cleared and refreshments of brick ice cream topped with whipped cream and chocolate iced individual cakes, were served. On each plate were favors of black cats dancing on candy pedestals and adorned with orange ribbon bows. Four of these tiny cats were stamped with the word “lucky,” and the person to whom they fell were given prizes. Mrs. James F. Hawkins received an ornamental basket, Mrs. Walter Coleman won a vase, Mrs. George De Cottes was given a flower bowl and Miss Marion Hand was presented a candy dish.
Mrs. John W. Meisch, Jr., Mrs. F. McKenzie Davison, Miss Zoe Munson, Miss Frances Dutton, and Miss Fannie Reba Munson, who served refreshments, wore most attractive Hallowe’en costumes which added much to the pretty scene.
The chapter wishes to extend thanks to the following business firms for their generous donations: Piggly Wiggly, Seminole Creamery, Birdsong Ice Cream Co., My Lady’s Shoppe, Coleman’s Book Shop, Laney’s Drug Co., Baggett’s Candy Shoppe and Hall Hardware Co.
There were 25 tables of players in addition to a large number of tea guests who enjoyed this unusually delightful affair.
