Antioch Missionary Baptist Church

In 1875, members of the black community came together to build a small place of worship. This became the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Until the creation of Antioch, African Americans living in the Lake Jesup Community had no official place of worship. The community came together and erected a small building, which became the first incarnation of the church. Reverend Amos Lastor became the first pastor of the church and under his leadership membership swelled andĀ Antioch grew in size and prominence. More significantly, out of their Sunday School program in the Little Red Schoolhouse pictured here, came the creation of the Oviedo Area Colored Schools.
