Within the space of a single generation, the city had gone from a remote outpost for crackers and the most hardened of pioneer settlers, to one of Florida's most preeminent cities. This image perfectly captures the prosperity and activity  that can be attributed to what the Sanford Herald deigned as "The Great Industrial Awakening of the South." Seemingly overnight the region transformed from a backwater community to one of Central Florida's fastest growing cities.
