Photograph of the Orchid Gardens attraction at Weeki Wachee Springs, taken in the 1950s. Hernando County Judge Monroe Treiman and his brother-in-law Grant Roberts opened the establishment at Weeki Wachee in 1955. Both men graduated from the University of Florida's College of Agriculture. Judge Treiman's hobby of growing orchids blossomed into this business. The establishments offered lectures on gardening, thousands of orchids from around the world for viewing, and a store at which to purchase orchids.[i]
