D.A.R. RITUAL IS WRITTEN BY MRS. WHITNER AND MRS. ROSSITER
A ritual written by Mrs. J. N. Whitner and Mrs. A. T. Rossiter for the use of the Sallie Harrison Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution, was given for the first time yesterday afternoon at the meeting of the chapter at the home of Mrs. Rolland L. Dean.
In the future all meetings of the local chapter will have the ritual as a part of each program. This is in compliance with a request of the national society. The ritual is as follows:
REGENT—We are grateful for the inspiration which called this patriotic society into existence. A memorial to our forefathers who centuries ago hope worn practices, with unquestioning faith in Almighty God, crosses an unknown sea, defying wind and wave, and sought a country wherein they might exercise and perpetuate the principals of liberty, justice and righteousness, unhindered by the fear of man, or kingdoms, or empires.
RESPONSE—Memory enshrines those brave souls
CHAPLAIN—They cried unto the Lord in their troubles and He brought them out of their distresses.
RESPONSE—Remember His Marvelous works that He hath done.
CHAPLAIN—The Heaven, even the Heavens are the Lords.
RESPONSE—But the earth hath he given to the children of men.
REGENT—Blessed is that nation whose God is the Lord. As Daughters of the American Revolution, realizing the safety of our country lies in the intelligence, moral character and patriotism of her citizens, and that the home is where these elements can best be engendered and fostered, our solemn duty is to keep the altar of domestic love and affection brightly blazing on the hearthstones, thus continuing a nation of happy homes, the highest type of heaven.
RESPONSE—And for this we give our hands, our heads, our hearts, to our God, our country, our flag.
REGENT—And all nations shall call you blessed, for ye shall be called a delightfulsome land, saith the Lord of Hosts.
RESPONSE—Lord God of Hosts be with us yet, lest we forget, lest we forget.
CHAPLAIN—(prayer) “Almighty God, we make our earnest prayer that thou wilt keep the United States in Thy Holy protection; that Thou wilt incline the heart of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government, and to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large.” (From a prayer by Washington compiled by Mrs. J. N. Whitner and Mrs. A. T. Rossiter, local women.
