Description

Present-day Manatee County, Florida, was originally inhabited by Native Americans. The area was opened for settlement by non-indigenous settlers in 1842, which were attracted by the area's fertile soil in the Manatee River Valley. Manatee County was established in 1855 with Bradenton as its county seat.
