Subject

St. Cloud, (Fla.)

Description

Postcard depicting a scene on New York Avenue in St. Cloud, Florida. Along either side of the avenue are buildings, likely homes as well as businesses. One building on the left includes the Seminole Pharmacy as well as a parlor. Men are seen standing in front of the buildings on the left side of the road. Horse drawn carriages can also be seen in front of the buildings. Running perpendicular to the avenue appears to be a railroad with a railroad car carrying supplies. Written along the bottom of the picture is, "New York Ave. Addis Photo. St. Cloud Fla." On the back of the postcard is a message addressed to Mr. J. E. Griffith at 74 Water St. in Keene New Hampshire. The message reads, "Sept. 15, 10. A year ago today there was not a house beside the hotel on this ave." New York Avenue is one of the first state-named streets in St. Cloud and now makes up the city's downtown area.
