Description
Postcard with a picture of the home of S. R. Averill in Zephyrhills, Florida. Averill previously lived in Pennsylvania before settling in Florida. The printed text next to the photo of the home reads, "We landed here the 26th of October, 1911. Moved in our new house in January 1912
have 2 1/2 acres cleared of roots and stumps
forty rods west of city limits on a twenty acre tract
straddling a small beautiful lake. We are planting our third garden at this writing, January 1913
we are having for the table the following (Goodies): Strawberries, lettuce, onions, radishes, celery, beats, cabbage, turnips, rutabagas, tomatoes, and cucumbers. This picture was taken by a friend unbeknown to us. Excuse my shirt sleeves. House 24x24
porch 10x56 feet. We are having out after dinner chat and smoke. Member of J. A. Garfield Post No. 38, Dep't of Florida, late of Company F. 13th Pa. Vol. Cav." On the back is a handwritten message which reads, "Looks [...] different now many trees [etc.]. [...] is a snap shot we did not know it was taken until long afterwards. The [...] yard is about 125 feet-sq. [...] a few roses and many of the [...] several fruit [...] trees. [...] grape vines, bananas, tangerines, guava, kumquat, and lemon trees."
