This grave marker denotes where SSgt. Thomas E. Eason is buried in the Epinal American Cemetery in Eastern France. Thomas E. Eason (1922-1945) served over three years in the United States Air Force, 569th Bomber Squadron, 390th Bomber Group, as a waist gunner on a B-17 nicknamed "Sweet and Lovely." He completed twenty-eight missions in both the Pacific and European Theaters of World War II. On January 20, 1945, he was killed in Eastern France after his plane was shot down by enemy combatants. Over the course of his service, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oak Leaf Clusters.
