Description
The B-17 Eason was on at the time of his death crashed in Eastern France after being shot down by enemy combatants across the German border. The crew was considered 'Missing in Action' until the wreckage was found. This 'Missing Air Crew Report' was written shortly after the plane crashed, and was edited with pencil after the crew was found. After they were found, Eason was discovered to be dead. This report records him as 'KIA.'
Thomas E. Eason (1922-1945) served over three years in the United States Air Force, 569th Bomber Squadron, 390th Bomber Group, as a waist gunner on a B-17 nicknamed "Sweet and Lovely." He completed twenty-eight missions in both the Pacific and European Theaters of World War II. On January 20, 1945, he was killed in Eastern France after his plane was shot down by enemy combatants. Over the course of his service, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oak Leaf Clusters. Today, he is buried in the Epinal American Cemetery.
