Description

Sgt. John B. Hancock was born in 1913 in Georgia. He was enlisted in the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Division. He served initially in Africa in 1943. After the Africa Campaign, his division moved to the Sicily Campaign. He helped in the invasion of Sicily with his division. During this time he sent several letters home. After, he stormed the Italian Peninsula where he was injured. He was returned to duty in February of 1944. After this, he toured in Southern France. On November 1, 1944 Sgt. Hancock went missing in action. He was eventually buried in Epinal Cemetery in Dinoze, France.
