Private Hawkins was a member of the 3rd Infantry Division and the 3rd Reconnaissance Troop. The 3rd Division participated in the Invasion of France through the South and traveled North towards the Rhine. Willis H. Hawkins was killed in action on November 2, 1944. Willis H. Hawkins was awarded by the Army a Purple Heart for his service and was buried in Epinal American Cemetery in France.
