Description
Sgt. John B Hancock was born in 1913 in Georgia. He was enlisted into the 179th Infantry Regiment in the 45th Division. He was enlisted and trained in Georgia and Florida. He participated in the Africa campaign in 1943. After this campaign, he participated in the invasion of Sicily. During this time, he was able to infrequently communicate with people back home. He then went on the storm the Italian Peninsula. After fighting through 1944, he was injured in Southern France. After recovering from his minor wounds, he fought through 1944. On November 1, 1944, he went missing in action. He was eventually buried in Epinal Cemetery in Dinoze, France.
