This is the World War II Honor List of Dead and Missing for The State of Florida including the dead from Hernando County.

Private Willis H. Hawkins was a resident of Istachatta. (ca. 1919-1944) Private Willis H. Hawkins lived in Istachatta for much of his life and was educated up to Grammar School and worked as a semi-skilled driver or chauffeur. Private Hawkins enlisted on October 20th, 1943. Private Hawkins was a member of the 3rd Infantry Division and the 3rd Reconnaissance Troop. The 3rd Division participated in the Invasion of France through the South and traveled North towards the Rhine. Willis H. Hawkins was killed in action on November 2, 1944. Willis H. Hawkins was awarded by the Army a Purple Heart for his service and was buried in Epinal American Cemetery in France.
