Description

The US population schedule for Colombia, South Carolina, in 1930. Private Maddox was born in 1924 in Detroit, Michigan to Claude Maddox, Sr. and Nita Maddox. Private Maddox was the oldest of three with two brothers, William and Claude, Jr. On February 27th, 1943, Private Maddox enlisted into the 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division from Camp Blanding, FL. This regiment served in Licata, Sicily, on July 10, 1943; Salerno, Italy, September 18, 1943; and Anzio, Italy, landing January 22, 1944. The regiment landed in Southern France on August 15th, 1944. Private Maddox was killed in action on October 9th, 1944. He is buried at the Epinal American Cemetery in Dinozè, France.
