Description
Dr. Joseph Taylor taught the first black history class at UCF (then called FTU) in the early 1970's. The class was titled History 324-01 Black American History, and was split into two sections, dividing black history into pre-slavery and post-slavery eras. The class was added in the Spring of 1970. Dr. Taylor himself was not a permanent faculty member at FTU, but was an assistant professor of American history at Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona, Florida.
