While the Quilt Remembers, a Proclamation Reconciles
The Sanford City Commission issued a formal Proclamation declaring December 8 as “Historic Goldsboro Day.” The Proclamation acknowledges the historical truth of Goldsboro’s annexation, names the harm it caused, and offers an official apology for the loss of independence and the generational impact that followed.
The Proclamation affirms the City’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation, justice, and peace while recognizing the resilience of Goldsboro’s descendants and acknowledging the ongoing contributions of community organizations such as Goldsboro Front Porch, Historic Goldsboro Main Street, and the Goldsboro Museum. The Proclamation calls upon all citizens to join in honoring the legacy of Goldsboro and the city’s shared journey toward unity and healing.
