Orlando Ministerial Association Minutes of Monthly Meeting

First Unitarian Church of Orlando

Minutes of a monthly meeting of the Orlando Ministerial Association. The meeting was held on April 2, 1959, at the Y.M.C.A. in Orlando, Florida. A financial report was made and Rabbi Shwartz began a discussion about the "Parent Option Plan", which was a bill that was to be introduced to the state legislature. The purpose of the plan was to siphon money from public schools to private institutions so that white children could avoid having to attend desegregated public schools. The Orlando Ministerial Association voiced opposition to this legislation. The committee appointed to contact the United Appeal reported that they received favorable responses from officials. The discussion of "Religion in the Public Schools" was postponed, and the meeting was adjourned with a prayer.
