Description
The Bank of Winter Garden, located on the corner of Main Street and Plant Street in Winter Garden, Florida, in the early 1900s. In 1908, James Lafayette Dillard (1858-1943) founded the Bank of Winter Garden. He would later become the Director and Vice President of the bank. During the 1912 fire, the bank survived even though Strozier Merchandise (seen on the left) and the Orange Hotel (seen on the right) were both destroyed. The Bank of Winter Garden closed in the 1929 crash and the building, enlarged with the addition of a second floor and expanded the west wall, became a department store, and later, a drug store and professional offices. In 1960, the bank was destroyed by a fire. In the picture, G. T. Smith, a bank cashier, is standing in the door of the bank.
