Gibbs-Louis, Inc. label, ca. 1950.

Founded in 1945 by Irving Gibbs, Gibbs-Louis was one of the most popular women's retail stores in downtown Orlando. Gibbs graduated from the University of Florida in 1935 with a bachelor's degree in business and bought an existing women's store, Louis, after serving in World War II.

In 1991, Gibbs retired and sold the company to former executives of Ivey's, a department store that was bought out by Dillard's. A year later the company went out of business.
