Oviedo Citizens in Action

Oviedo Citizens in Action Committee (OCIAC) at the Oviedo School in Oviedo, Florida, around 1969.

This blurry photograph taken from a Seminole County newspaper is one of the few images that document the history of the OCIAC. The community organization fought for equal and civil rights within the Greater Oviedo area. They helped to desegregate a number of local businesses, including a barbershop, through non-violent resistance. Although the OCIAC was a predominantly African-American organization, the organization currently has members of all races. The OCIAC still organizes today, and is lead by President Danny McKinney, as of 2015.
