Description
The LizArt Live! auction at Orlando City Hall, located at 400 South Orange Avenue, in Downtown Orlando, Florida 2002. The statues range between 5 feet and six inches in height to seven feet and six inches in length. The lizard statues were originally located at various places in Orlando, such as the Orlando Centroplex, Lake Eola, the Expo Centre, and the Cultural Corridor, CityWalk at Universal Studios Orlando, the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando International Airport, Leu Gardens, and Loch Haven Park.
The LizArt project was inspired by Chicago's cows on Parade, which was modeled after a public art project in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1998. Other cities have held similar projects, such as Cincinnati's pigs, Lexington's horses, Buffalo's buffalo, Virginia Beach's mermaids, New Orleans' fish, and Rhode Island's potato heads. The LizArt was auctioned on January 31, 2002.
