Appendix II: Small Steam and Gas Turbine Division Marketing's New Years Greeting, 1967

Westinghouse Small steam and Gas Turbine Marketing Department.

During the latter part of the 1960s, the gas turbine was just beginning to gain acceptance as a prime mover for both electrical and mechanical applications. There was also interest by process plants and small power systems in the application of steam turbines in the lower output range. Since many of the same customers were served by both types of turbines, it was logical that the marketing function for both would be combined into one department.

The Small Steam and Gas Turbine Marketing was headed by Ted Anthony and the two Sales Managers were Al Becker for Small Steam and Don Jones for Gas Turbines. The Small Steam Turbine Salesmen were John Magee, Ron Moreland, Dick Gaskins, Tom Lane, and Ken Conrad. The Gas Turbine Salesmen were John Coffen, Keith Wein, Darrell Aulds, Dale Stephenson, George Baker, and John Munnis. Mabel McMaster was the Department Secretary and Greer Holt and Cathy Wendeler were secretaries for the Small Steam and Gas Turbine groups respectively. Bill Owen was the Marketing Analyst.

The Department was located on the 2nd floor of the N building at the facility in Lester, Pennyslvania, above the Heat Transfer fabrication shop, with desks around the perimeter of each of two rooms. Desks were placed close together in a totally open configuration and, therefore, a very noisy work environment. While very distracting, this arrangement allowed for all to know what was going on everywhere. The secretaries always complained about the hazy cigar smoke the occurred when an order was closed. The whole Engineering Department was located just down the hall in a large bull open area along with the Projects Department and the Purchasing Department. Consequently the whole gas turbine operation was small enough that everyone knew everyone else which greatly facilitated getting the job done.
