Appendix V: Westinghouse Gas Turbine Management Timeline

Note: This listing was compiled from the author's collection of employee communications related to changes in Westinghouse management associated with the gas turbine product line. There is obviously much missing from the years prior and many holes in information for the time period covered. With the passing of time since this information was first made available, the assumption is made that it is no longer proprietary or of sensitive nature.


1964
Robert Twombly is appointed the General Manager of the Small Steam & Gas Turbine (SS&GT) Division, reporting to the Vice President and General Manager of the Steam Divisions in Lester, Pennsylvania.

1966
Jim Moise replaces Bob Twombly as the General Manager of the SS&GT Division.

1969
Frank McClure replaces Moise as the General Manager of the SS&GT Division.

1970
S. F. McKetic replaces McClure as the General Manager of the SS&GT Division.

1972
Pete Sarles replaces Steve McKetic and the division is renamed the Gas Turbine Systems Division (GTSD).
Jack Pope replaces Ted Anthony, who was retiring, as the Marketing Manager.

1974-1975
Joe Stadelman replaces Pete Sarles as General Manager of the GTSD. Sarles served in that role from around 1972.

May 2, 1975
Stadelman announces the formation of the Long Range Development Department to be headed by Don Jones. Jones' prior position as a U.S. Sales Manager for gas turbine marketing was later filled by Reg McIntyre, who remained involved in that activity at increasing levels of management for about 20 years.

January, 27, 1978
A letter from Stadelman to the employees of the Generation Systems Division (GSD) informing them of new division name Combustion Turbine Systems Division (CTSD). The letter states that: "Our customers and potential customers need to know that Westinghouse is in the Combustion Turbine business."

June 1978
Ground is broken at new site for CTSD headquarters and Gas Turbine Development Center at Concordville, Pennsylvania.

January 7, 1979
An organization chart shows Stadelmanunder Executive Vice President of Power Generation E. J. "Gene" Cattabianiwith staff including Dick Adelizzi, Engineering; Don Jones, Long Range Development; Marc Goldberg, Marketing; Al Bleiweis, Projects Department; Bill McCall, Administration and Material Control; and Fred Rosenthal, Availability Assurance.

Spring 1979
CTSD moves from the A Building in Eddystone, Pennyslvania to the new Division headquarters and Development Center in Concordville.

May 8, 1980
Stadelman announces the  appointment of Jones to replace Adelizzi as Manager of Combustion Turbines Engineering. Phil DiNenno takes Jones' position as Manager of Long Range Development.

February 1981
Jack Barrett, General Manager of CTSD, announces appointment of McIntyre to the position of Marketing Manager. McIntyre appoints Harry Jaeger as Manager of Marketing Operations.

October 29, 1982
Earle Dubois is appointed as Vice President and General Manager of CTSD, replacing Barrett after his retirement. Dubois was the Vice President of Corporate Relations with more than 30 years of experience with Westinghouse, with both Transmission and Distribution (T&D) and Nuclear experience. Barrett was General Manager at CTSD from 1980 having last held position of General Manager at the Power Generation Service Division (PGSD) in Broomall, Pennyslvania.

February 1984
Dubois appoints Bob Smith as the Director of Saudi Projects to bring the Hail and Qaseem projects to "successful conclusion."

September 12, 1984
Dubois announces the restructuring of CTSD management organization. Jim Borden is named Manager of Combustion Turbines Operations (Projects Department and Service Department, replacing Fred Rosenthal who moved to Orlando)replacing Fred Rosenthal, who moved to Orlando); Reg McIntyre is named Manager of Combustion Turbines Marketing/Purchasing; and Don Jones is named Manager of Combustion Turbines Engineering, which would include Long Range Development.

October 19, 1984
Gene Cattabiani announces the retirement of Dr. Stan Quick, General Manager of Steam Turbine Generator Division (STGD), and the formation of Power Generation Commercial Division (PGCD) under R. E. G "Bob" Ractcliffe and Power Generation Operations Division (PGOD) under D. Howard Pierce.

November 19, 1984
Cattabiani announces the reassignment of CTSD Marketing and Engineering to PGCD and PGOD, respectively. Borden, Manager of Combustion Turbines Operations, continues to report to Dubois, who remains in place as site manager in Concordville, responsible for all existing projects, except for the Saudi project).

February 15, 1985
Dubois distributes a letter from Plant Manager Al Axt, announcing the decision to close the factory in Lester, Pennyslvania.

July 1985
An organization charts show split of CTSD organization in two partsone under Ractcliffe's PGCD, and one under Pierce's  PGOD. McIntyre's Combustion Turbine Generator (CTG) Marketing and Borden's CTG Operations are to report to Ractcliffe. Jones' Combustion Turbine Engineering is to report to Pierce.

May 1986
Jim Mooreunder Ted Stern—is named Vice President and General Manager of Power Systems Business Unit (PSBU), integrating Nuclear and Power Generation business operations in three divisions: the Energy Systems Services Division (ESSD), under Frank Bakos; the Energy Systems Technology Division (ESTD), under Nat Woodson; and the Operations Division, under Pierce. ESTD includes Generation Systems Technology Division (GTSD), under Tom Campbell, which includes Cumbustion Turbine Operations (CTO). ESTD also includes Power Projects Development Department, under Jarvis Cotton, which includes Generation Projects Development.

May 14, 1986
Bakos, General Manager of the Energy Systems Services Division, announces the organization of ESSD with the merger of Power Generation and Nuclear groups covering operating plant market. Ractcliffe is named Director Operating Plant Projects, reporting to Bakos.

October 1986
A letter from Don White, Manager of Combustion Turbines Operations, to Concordville employees that the CTO will relocate to Orlando, Florida, in 1987.

March 31, 1987
In a letter signed by ETSD General Manager Woodson, D. "Nick" Bartol is appointed CTO Managerunder Tom Campbell, General Manager of Gas Turbine Systems Division (GTSD). May 7, 1987
Tom Campbell announces the new GTSD organization with H. Kaczowka as CTO Manager. Bartol IS named Engineering Manager of STGD. McIntyre, Borden, J. Rumancik, M. Farr, and A. Scalzo are to report to Kaczowka.

May 20, 1988
Ted Stern, Executive Vice President of Energy and Utility Systems, announces formation of the Power Generation Business Unit (PGBU) under General Manager Frank Bakos. The PGBU formed initially for purpose of implementing planned merger with Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) Steam Turbine Generator (STG) and T&D businesses. Sale of T&D business to ABB soon followed, but STG business remained with Westinghouse's PGBU. CTO not originally included in the PGBU. Also, the Energy Systems Business Unit formed under Dr. Richard "Dick" Slember to absorb remainder of the PSBU, including CTO and Power Projects.

June 24, 1988
H. Kaczowka announces the restructured CTO organization.
D. Fraser is named Manager Combustion Turbine Engine Engineering.
Reg McIntyre is named Manager of CTO Marketing, including Service Marketing.
K. Seliger named Manager of Service Marketing.
K. Johnson named Mgr Strategic Programs and Customer Support.
J. Borden is named Manager of Special Projects.
A. Scalzo is named Technical Director.
C. DelVecchio is named Manager of Operations.

September 30, 1988
Dick Slember, the Vice President General Manager Energy Systems Business Unit, announces a reorganization with the Power Systems Division being divided into two parts: the Nuclear and Advanced Technology Division (NATD), to be headquartered in Monroeville; and another "currently being structured" to handle non-nuclear project activities, including combustion turbine operations, to be headquartered in Orlando.
Note: Organization charts for CTO dated September 1988 and December 1988 still show CTO under Kaczowka.

April 17, 1989
Romano Salvatori, the General Manager of Power Generation Projects Division (PGPD)under Frank Bakosannounces the new organization:

August 14, 1989
Nick Bartol announces the restructuring of PGBU Engineering Department:
Andy Ayoob is named Manager of Combustion Turbine and Steam Systems Engineering.
R. Antos, D. Entenmann, and L. McClaurin are to report to Ayoob.

November 20, 1990
Bakos announces the reorganization of the PGBU:
D. White - Technology Division (incorporating both Steam Turbine and Combustion Turbine Engineering Departments).
R. Salvatori - Commercial Operations Division.
Conroy, Zwirn, Weeks, McIntyre, Steinnenbron are to report to Salvatori.
Paul Loch - Manufacturing Operations Division.
Howard Pierce - Strategic Operations Division.

November 20, 1990
Salvatori announces the appointment of Randy Zwirn, Manager of the PGPD.
Lamonettin, Vargo, Johnson, Kessinger, and Rumancik are to report to Zwirn.

January 7, 1994
Bakos, Vice President and General Manager, announces the reorganization of the PGBU:
Don White - General Manager of the Service Operations Division.
Nick Bartol - General Manager of the Technology Division.
Randy Zwirn - General Manager of the Power Projects Division.
Paul Loch - Manufacturing Operations Divisions.
Roman Salvatori - Deputy General Manager of the PGBU and General Manager of Strategic Affairs.

September 1998
